Our Space

Our Montessori classroom is a carefully prepared and stimulating learning environment, organised to meet the needs of children at different stages of development. All our materials have a specific purpose and are presented deliberately so children can easily engage with them. The space contains 'child-sized' equipment, stimulating materials and age-appropriate activities specifically prepared to facilitate the child's growing need for independence.

"Montessori has been such a positive and welcome way of learning and development for my son, who has been going to Montessori South West since his first birthday. His comprehension, language, and creative abilities continually amaze me. Once a shy boy who was frightened of other children, is now quite the confident social butterfly. We love being part of the Montessori community and have embrace elements into our home and day to day life."

Our Activities

All sessions are Parent-Child based, whereby a parent or carer attends with their child.  Every session has a volunteer 'parent on duty' who has experience with Montessori and is available for information and guidance.

WE ARE SO MUCH MORE than just a playgroup! In our sessions the children are actively encouraged to participate with little adult assistance; to complete and repeat tasks without interruption or interference. This builds the childs attention span and sense of self-accomplishment whilst increasing the adults awareness of the child's capabilities and quest for independence.

A range of activities is offered, including:

  • Language enrichment

  • Exercises to refine eye-hand coordination

  • Visual discrimination activities

  • Practical life exercises

  • Art activities

  • Sensorial development

Plus lots more!

Our group is not-for-profit and our committee consists of unpaid parent volunteers.  They undertake all the functions that ensure the Montessori runs effectively, like coordinating and running the programs, buying fruit and consumables, writing grant and funding applications, managing accounts and paying the bills, cleaning, managing emails, administration, social media and marketing.

To ensure as much of our funds go back into programs, resources, equipment and consumables which benefit the children, the families and parents in our Montessori community support the group in participating in day to day jobs, including morning tea preparation, set up and pack down, clean up, for example. Our community also comes together to fundraise and complete projects for Montessori.

Our parent volunteers supported by our Montessori families ensures our group continues to operate for our children (and parents!) to enjoy! Our Committee is comprised of busy working mothers and mums with babies and young children, who donate their time - so a little help from our Montessori community is both so important and very much appreciated. As they say - many hands make light work!
